- A simple scale vets use to judge whether a pet is underweight, ideal, or overweight.
- Body language
- The postures, ears, tail, and eyes a pet uses to show how it's feeling.

- Crate training
- Teaching a dog to see a crate as a safe, calm space of its own, using rewards and patience.

- Enclosure
- The cage, hutch, tank, or habitat where a small pet lives; size and setup matter a lot.
- Enrichment
- Toys, play, and activities that keep a pet's mind and body engaged and prevent boredom.

- Grooming
- Brushing, bathing, nail care, and coat maintenance that keep a pet clean and comfortable.

- Hairball
- A clump of swallowed fur a cat may cough up; frequent brushing reduces them.
L
- Litter training
- Helping a cat or small pet reliably use a litter box or designated toilet area.
M
- Microchip
- A tiny implanted ID chip that helps reunite a lost pet with its owner.

- Neutering / spaying
- Routine surgery that prevents a pet from reproducing; ask your vet about timing.

- Positive reinforcement
- Training by rewarding the behavior you want, rather than punishing what you don't.

- Quarantine
- Keeping a new or sick animal separate for a while to protect other pets, on a vet's advice.

- Recall
- A dog's ability to come back to you reliably when called.

- Shedding
- The normal, seasonal loss of old fur, which regular brushing helps manage.
- Socialization
- Gently exposing a young pet to new people, animals, sounds, and places so it grows up confident.

- Vaccination
- Veterinary shots that protect a pet from serious diseases, given on a vet's schedule.

- Zoomies
- Sudden bursts of frantic, happy running — common and normal in dogs and cats.
